JC Wings JCW-72-FW190-002 replicates in 1/72 scale diecast the Fw 190 A-4 Würger (Shrike), “Yellow 4” flown by Oberleutnant Siegfried Schnell, Staffelkapitän 9./JG 2 “Richthofen”, Luftwaffe, France, February 1943.
Siegfried Schnell
Siegfried Schnell (1916 – 1944) was a German fighter ace of the Luftwaffe during World War II. Schnell was killed in action on February 25, 1944, during the Soviet Narva offensive. At his death, Schnell held the rank of Hauptmann, posthumously promoted to Major and credited with 93 aerial victories, three on the Eastern Front and 90 on the Western. Awards included the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and the German Cross.
Focke-Wulf Fw 190
The Fw 190 Würger (Shrike) is a German World War II single-engine, single-seat monoplane fighter that first flew on June 1, 1939, entering service in August 1941. It was produced in numerous variants to fulfil various missions, including day fighter, fighter-bomber, ground attack and night fighter. It outperformed the Supermarine Spitfire until the introduction of the Spitfire Mk IX in July 1942.
The Fw 190 A series was a fighter and ground attack variant; the Fw 190 F sequence is a ground-attack variant with weapon racks and increased armour. Unusual airframe features include rigid pushrods instead of cables and extensive use of electrically powered equipment, including the undercarriage.
The Fw 190A uses a single BMW 801 14-cylinder air-cooled radial piston engine, driving a three-bladed constant-speed propeller. The armament consists of two machine guns mounted internally atop the engine and four cannons, one in each wing root and outboard.
