JC Wings JCW-72-F14-010
JC Wings JCW-72-F14-010 replicates in 1/72 scale diecast the F-14B Tomcat BuNo 162912 tail code AA/101 of Fighter Squadron 11 (VF-11) “Red Rippers”. Deployed with Carrier Air Wing Seventeen (CVW-17) aboard the USS George Washington (CVN-73), the squadron’s last Tomcat cruise, 2005.
“Thanks for the Ride! 1980-2005”
As part of the final Tomcat cruise along with the AIM-54 Phoenix Missile aboard the USS George Washington, the CAG and CO aircraft of VF-11 wore high visibility paint schemes with nose art on the starboard side depicting a Tomcat perched atop an AIM-54 with the title “Thanks for the Ride! 1980-2005”.
Grumman F-14 Tomcat
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is an American tandem-seat, twin-engine, carrier-capable air superiority fighter, fleet defence interceptor, and tactical aerial reconnaissance platform. It is the largest and heaviest US fighter to operate from an aircraft carrier. Developed to carry the AIM-54 Phoenix missile, the first flight occurred on December 21, 1970, entering service in 1974.
The US Navy retired its last F-14s in 2006; it remains in service with the Iran Air Force, the only other type operator. Production ended in 1991, with 712 airframes built.
F-14A uses two Pratt & Whitney TF30s after burning low bypass turbofan jet engines; some upgraded to the General Electric GE F110. F-14Bs and -Ds use the GE F110-400. The armament consists of a single cannon internally in the nose; ten hard points can carry 6,600 kg (14,500 lb) of stores.
