Hobby Master HA7508 1/48 Air Power Series
Hobby Master 1/48 Air Power Series HA7508 replicates in 1/48 scale diecast the P-26A Peashooter of the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) stationed at Wheeler Army Airfield Honolulu on the Island of O’ahu, Hawaii, December 1941.
Boeing P-26 Peashooter
The P-26 Peashooter is an American single-engine, single-seat monoplane fighter that first flew on March 20, 1932, entering service in 1933 with the USAAC. It was the first American production all-metal fighter aircraft and the first pursuit monoplane to enter squadron service.
The P-26 had an open cockpit, fixed tail dragging undercarriage, and the wings used wire bracing rather than rigid struts, lighter with less drag.
Acclaimed by pilots for its speed and maneuverability, it became quickly outdated, and by 1936 the USAAC began to withdraw them from front-line service. One hundred fifty-one airframes were completed before production ended, and twelve examples were exported, 11 to China and one to Spain.
The P-26 uses a single Pratt & Whitney R-1340-27 Wasp 9-cylinder air-cooled radial piston engine, driving a two-bladed fixed-pitch propeller. The armament consists of two machine guns and up to 90.7 kg (200 lb) bomb load.
