Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 126 (VAW-126) “Seahawks” is a United States Navy unit established in April 1967, equipped with the E-2A Hawkeye. Originally nicknamed the “Closeouts”, it is stationed at NAS Norfolk. The squadron deployed in the Gulf and Iraq Wars, Operations Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve.
Northrop Grumman E-2 Hawkeye
The E-2 Hawkeye is an American twin-engine, all-weather, carrier-capable, tactical airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft. The first designed solely for the AEW mission and capable of both civil and military air traffic control.
Designed for the US Navy to replace the E-1 Tracer, the type first flew on October 21, 1960, entering service in January 1964 and making its combat debut during the Vietnam war. Over the years, it has undergone radar, radio communications, and engine upgrades. Other operators of the Hawkeye include Egypt, France, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Singapore and Taiwan.
