Hobby Master HA4320 1/72 Air Power Series
Hobby Master 1/72 Air Power Series HA4320 replicates in 1/72 scale diecast the CL-13 Sabre Mk. 6 taktische nummer (tactical number) JA+111 of Jagdgeschwader 71 (JG 71) “Richthofen”, Luftwaffe. Flown by Geschwaderkommodore, Oberstleutnant Eric Hartmann, based at Ahlhorn AB, Germany, 1960.
Erich Hartmann
Erich Hartmann (1922 – 1993) is the most successful fighter ace in history, credited with 352 aerial victories. Post-war, Hartmann was sentenced to 25 years of hard labour on trumped-up war crimes by the Soviets. Released in 1955 after ten years of imprisonment, he returned to West Germany and joined the Luftwaffe in 1956. He resigned in 1970 and became a civilian flight instructor.
Hartmann attained the rank of Major with the Wehrmacht and Oberst (Colonel) with the Bundeswehr. He received the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds, the Iron Cross 2nd Class and the German Cross in Gold.
Canadair CL-13 Sabre
The Canadair CL-13 Sabre is a Canadian, single-seat, single-engine fighter and fighter bomber—A licence-built variant of the North American F-86 Sabre. The first flight occurred on August 9, 1950, entering service in 1952 (Mk.2).
The Mk.1 and 2s were similar to F-86, but the Mk.4, 5 and 6 had Canadian Orenda engines. Production ended in 1958 with 1,615 airframes built and exported to several countries.
The Mk.1 and 2 used the General Electric J47 series axial flow turbojet. The Mk.4, Mk.5, and Mk.66 had Avro Canada TR5 Orenda axial-flow turbojet. The armament of the Mk.6 consisted of six machine guns in the fuselage nose and four external hardpoints carrying up to 2,400 kg (5,300 lb) of payload.
