Convair F-102 Delta Dagger
The F-102 Delta Dagger was an American single-seat, single-engine, supersonic interceptor aircraft that first flew on October 24, 1953, entering service in 1955. Unable to achieve supersonic flight in its original form, it underwent significant remodelling, incorporating the transonic area rule giving it the Coke bottle fuselage.
The Dagger saw combat during the Vietnam War and the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. The USAF transferred the F-102 to the ANG in the 1960s, retired from service by 1976 and converted to drones. Production ended in 1958 with 875 airframes built; Greece and Turkey were the only other operators.
The F-102A uses a single Pratt & Whitney J57 axial after-burning turbojet. Armament excludes guns but carries six air-to-air missiles in an internal weapons bay. In 1958, a provision was made for underwing drop tanks.
