No.34 Sqn RAAF
No. 34 Squadron is a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) based at Defence Establishment Fairbairn in Canberra. It is a VIP transport squadron operating the Boeing 737-700 BBJ and Dassault Falcon 7Xs. No.34 Sqn was formed in February 1943 as a transport unit at RAAF Station Darwin, Northern Territory.
Boeing 737 BBJ
The Boeing 737 BBJ is an American twin-engine business jet based on the 737-700. The first flight occurred on September 4, 1998, with deliveries beginning in September 1999.
The BBJ combines the Boeing 737-700 fuselage with a strengthened rear section. It uses the centre section, wing and landing gear of the 737-800; winglets reduce drag by 5 to 7 per cent and increase range by 4 to 5 per cent. Up to nine auxiliary belly fuel tanks increase range to over 11,000 km (6,835 mi)
The flight crew comprises two pilots, and the passenger cabin typically seats up to 3o. It uses two CFM International CFM56-7 high-bypass turbofan axial flow engines, pylon mounted one under each wing.
