Our Commitment
In April 2021, in partnership with UNCF, Alaska Airlines unveiled The B737-900ER registration N492AS in the special “Our commitment” livery to symbolise the airline’s commitment to education and advancing racial equity at Alaska Airlines and to inspire others.
The custom livery features artistic renderings of students connected to airline employees. Along with quotes from social activists, Dr Martin Luther King Jr. “The time is always right to do what is right.” former South African President Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world”.
Boeing 737 NG
The Boeing 737 Next Generation (NG) is an American twin-engine, narrowbody, short to medium-range jet airliner. The third generation of the B737 family includes the -600, -700, -800, -900ER and the BBJ (Boeing Business Jet). It first flew on February 9, 1997, and entered service in December 1997 with Southwest Airlines (737-700).
Enhancements over previous models include a new wing, larger area and length, improved engines, higher fuel capacity, a glass cockpit and a new interior. In addition, performance and capability upgrades are extended range, higher seating capacity, and increased maximum takeoff weight (MTOW).
The B737 series is the best-selling jet airliner in history, and the -800 variant is the most widely used narrowbody aircraft.
The 737 has a flight crew of two pilots and typically seats 123 (-600), 140 (-700), 175 (-800) and 177 (-900ER). It uses two CFM International CFM56-7 high bypass turbofans, one pylon mounted under each wing.
