VF-211 “Fighting Checkmates”

It operated the F-14 Tomcat from 1975 until 2004, when it transitioned to the F/A-18F Hornet, along with a designation change to VFA-211. It is currently stationed at NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, and deploys with CVW-11 aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71)
Grumman F-14 Tomcat
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is an American tandem-seat, twin-engine, carrier-capable air superiority fighter, fleet defence interceptor, and tactical aerial reconnaissance platform. It is the largest and heaviest US fighter to operate from an aircraft carrier. Developed to carry the AIM-54 Phoenix missile, the first flight occurred on December 21, 1970, entering service in 1974.
The US Navy retired its last F-14s in 2006; it remains in service with the Iran Air Force, the only other type operator. Production ended in 1991, with 712 airframes built.
F-14A uses two Pratt & Whitney TF30s after burning low bypass turbofan jet engines; some upgraded to the General Electric GE F110. F-14Bs and -Ds use the GE F110-400. The armament consists of a single cannon internally in the nose. Ten hard points can carry up to 6,600 kg (14,500 lb) of payload.
