Buchannan Models BM10003
Buchannan Models BM10003 replicates in 1/400 scale diecast the L-1011-1 TriStar (FAA certification: L-1011-385-1) registration N372EA, in Air America hybrid Eastern Air Lines livery with polished metal, circa 1989.
Tristar N372EA
Air America leased this tristar from Eastern Air Lines, from November 1, 1988, until July 1, 1989. Due to the short lease period, the aircraft wore a hybrid livery.
Air America was an American airline formed in late 1984 as Total Air operating civilian and military charters and scheduled services. The name changed to Air America in 1986 and ceased operation in March 1990.
Lockheed L-1011 TriStar
The L-1011 TriStar is an American medium-to-long-range, widebody trijet airliner that first flew on November 16, 1970, and entered service in April 1972 with Eastern Airlines. However, engine development problems and the financial difficulties of Rolls-Royce delayed the TriStar’s entrance into service by two years, allowing the McDonald Douglas DC-10 to gain the upper hand.
The Tristar utilised advanced technology for the time. One of which allowed it to be the first widebody airliner certified for blind autolanding. Production ended in 1984 with 250 airframes built. The British Royal Air Force operated nine of the type, designated K.1, KC.1 and C.2.
The flight crew consists of two pilots and a flight engineer, and the passenger cabin seats up to 300, depending on the variant. It uses three Rolls-Royce RB211 high-bypass axial-flow turbofan engines, one pylon mounted under each wing and the third in the rear of the fuselage, air fed via an S-duct embedded in the tail and upper fuselage.
