Fokker D.VII
The Fokker D.VII was a German WWI single-seat, single-engine, biplane fighter. It first flew in January 1918, entering service in May 1918 with Jasta 10. It was built by Fokker Flugzeugwerke and under license by Albatros Flugzeugwerke (Alb) and its subsidiary Ostdeutsche Albatros Werke (OAW).
Designed by Reinhold Platz, it was one of the best fighters of WWI. Well built and very maneuverable, simple to fly with excellent control characteristics at low speed. It Made Such an impact on the Allies Germany had to surrender all surviving examples at the war’s end.
The aircraft remained sought-after post World War I serving in several countries and manufactured in Hungary and Switzerland.
The airframe construction is a fabric-covered, welded steel tube fuselage and wooden wings. It uses a single Mercedes D.III or a BMW IIIa; both were water-cooled six-cylinder piston engines driving a two-bladed wooden propeller. The armament consisted of two machine guns mounted atop the fuselage nose.
