Hawker Hurricane
The Hawker Hurricane is a British single-seat, single-engine monoplane fighter that first flew on November 6, 1935, entering service on December 25 1937, with No 111 Squadron RAF. The Hurricane proved rugged and a steady gun platform and remained in service throughout World War II. They were adapted for several roles: night fighter, fighter-bomber and ground support. Also, carrier-capable and catapult-launched from modified merchant ships. By 1944 more than 14,500 Hurricanes had been constructed, serving in all the major theatres of WWII.
The Hurricane IIC uses a single Rolls-Royce Merlin V-12 liquid-cooled piston engine driving a three-bladed constant-speed Rotol propeller. The armament consists of four wing-mounted cannons; underwing racks can carry up to 460 kg (1,000 lb) of stores.
