Boeing B737 NG

The Boeing B737 Next Generation (NG) is an American twin-engine, narrow-body, short to medium range jet airliner. The third generation of the B737 family encompassing the -600, -700, -800, -900ER and the BBJ (Boeing Business Jet). The B737 series is the best selling jet airliner in history. One of the B737NG improvements over previous models is a new wing, larger in the area and longer in the span. Along with improved engines, higher fuel capacity, a glass cockpit and contemporary interior. Performance and capability upgrades over previous generations are extended range, higher seating capacity and increased maximum takeoff weight (MTOW).

The -800 variant, the most widely used narrowbody aircraft worldwide, entered service in 1998 with Hapag-Lloyd Flug. Typically seating is 162 passengers in two-classes or up to 189 in one class.

Airframe construction is mainly of aluminium alloy with some fibreglass, carbon fibre and Kevlar. The fuselage is a semi-monocoque structure with liquid crystal displays in the cockpit. The low mounted wings and conventional tail assembly are of cantilever design with sweep back. The retractable undercarriage is a tricycle type with the primary units mount in the wings, folding inwards into the fuselage; the nose unit retracts forward. Flight crew consists of two pilots and the passenger cabin typically seats between 110 and 210 passengers depending on the model.

It uses four CFM56-7 high-bypass turbofan engines, giving a cruise speed of 842 km/h (523 mph), a range of 5,436 km (3,378 mi, service ceiling of 12,497 m (41,000 ft).
