N747GE
Delivered new to Pan Am in 1970, registered N744PA, named ‘Clipper Ocean Spray’, onsold to GE in 1992. Registered as N747GE, it had most of the interior removed, and the left wing and tail were strengthened for inflight engine testing and used to develop engines like the GE90 (777), GEnx (747-8 & 787), Engine Alliance GP7200 (A380), CFM-56 (various), and the LEAP (737 MAX, A320neo, C919). Withdrawn from service in 2017 and replaced by a B747-400, N747GE was the oldest 747 in active service at retirement. In 2018 GE donated the aircraft to the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona.
Boeing 747-100
The Boeing 747 is an American wide-body, four-engine jet airliner, one of the most recognisable passenger aircraft with its distinctive hump atop the forward fuselage. The 747-100, the first twin-aisle airliner, maiden flight occurred on February 9, 1969, and entered service on January 22, 1970, with Pan Am. Manufactured in three versions; the 747-100 (passenger), the 747-100SR (short-range) and the extended-range 747-100B. Designated as the C-19 in USAF service, Nasa modified one airframe to carry the Space Shuttle Orbiter. The 747 SP is based on the -100 airframe. Before manufacturing ended, 205 airframes of all versions were delivered.
The flight crew consists of two pilots, and the passenger cabin seats up to 400 in a typical three-class layout, 496 in a two-classes, or 624 passengers in a high–density single class (747-300SR). It uses four Pratt & Whitney JT9D or Rolls-Royce RB211-524 or General Electric CF6 high-bypass turbofan engines, pylon mounted two under each wing.
