About This Model
Inflight200 IFC47USAF558 is a 1/200 scale diecast model of the Douglas C-47A, named “Buzz Buggy” of the 81st Troop Carrier Squadron (81st TCS), 436 Troop Carrier Group (436th TCG), United States Army Air Forces (USAAF).
Buzz Buggy
Douglas manufactured the C-47A-65-DL, serial number 42-100558, at its Long Beach, California, plant. The aircraft, nicknamed and marked as “Buzz Buggy,” deployed to Membury Airfield in Berkshire, England, in 1944 and joined the 81st Troop Carrier Squadron, 436th Troop Carrier Group.
Aircrews flew “Buzz Buggy” in key airborne operations over Normandy, southern France, Holland, and Germany, dropping paratroopers, towing gliders, and delivering critical supplies. After World War II, the USAAF transferred the aircraft to the Uruguayan Air Force in 1950, where ground crews re-registered it as G4-510. “Buzz Buggy” continued to serve in military transport roles until an accident led to its scrapping in 1959.
