Convair 880
The Convair 880 is an American narrow-body, four-engined medium-range jet airliner. It first flew on January 27, 1959, entering service in May 1960 with Delta Air Lines.
The Convair 880 was the fastest four-engine commercial jet until the introduction of the Boeing 747. It was produced in two versions, the initial -22 and the improved “-22-M”.
Smaller and faster than its competitors, the Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8, lacking sufficient demand, Convair ceased production in 1962 after only three years with 65 airframes built.
The flight crew consists of two pilots and a flight engineer, and the passenger cabin seated up to 110. The CV-880 used four General Electric CJ805 axial flow turbojet engines pylon mounted, one under each wing.
