166th ARS, OH ANG.

The 166th Air Refuelling Squadron (ARS) serves as a key flying unit within the 121st Air Refuelling Wing at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus, Ohio. As part of the Ohio Air National Guard, the squadron operates the Boeing KC-135R Stratotanker, a highly capable aerial tanker powered by efficient CFM56 engines.

The 166th began as a fighter squadron during World War II but later transitioned to its current air mobility support role to meet the Air Force’s evolving needs. The 166th ARS provides vital in-flight refuelling that extends the range and endurance of U.S. Air Force, allied, and coalition aircraft around the world.

Its crews have supported major operations such as Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom, as well as ongoing NATO and allied missions. Beyond its primary mission, the squadron also supports aeromedical evacuations, cargo transport, and humanitarian relief, underscoring its flexibility and importance to global air operations.
