Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II
The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is an American single-seat, single-engine, stealth, multirole fighter that first flew (F-35A) on December 15, 2006. A fifth-generation combat aircraft designed to conduct ground-attack and air-superiority missions in all weather. The United States Marines (USMC) declared the first squadron (F-35B) operational in July 2015, US Air Force (USAF) (F-35A) in August 2016 and US Navy (USN) (F-35C) in February 2019. The F-35 made its combat debut in 2018 with the Israeli Air Force.
The F-35A, conventional takeoff and landing, smallest and lightest model, equipped for aerial boom refuelling and the only model with an internal cannon.
The F-35B, short takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL), similar in size to the -A with a probe-drogue aerial refuelling. The internal weapon bay is smaller and internal fuel capacity reduced to accommodate the vertical flight system.
The F-35C, Carrier capable, has larger wings, more robust landing gear, wingtips fold and probe-drogue aerial refuelling. It has the greatest internal fuel capacity of the three.
