Dassault Mirage 2000

The Dassault Mirage 2000 is a French single (2000C) or tandem seat (2000B) single-engined fourth-generation multirole lightweight jet fighter. Designed to replace the Mirage III, it first flew on March 10, 1978, and entered service in July 1984. Is combat debut took place during the Gulf War with the French air force. Production ended in 2007 with 601 airframes built and sales to eight nations.

Airframe construction is mainly of aluminium alloy with some titanium and carbon fibre composite, a semi-monocoque fuselage with the engine air intakes located on fuselage sides. The cantilevered wing is a low mounted delta with a swept fin. The undercarriage is a retractable tricycle type.

Powered by a single SNECMA M53 axial-flow afterburning turbojet engine mounted in the fuselage, the Mirage 2000 has a maximum speed of 2,336 km/h (1,452 mph), a service ceiling of 17,060 m (55,970 ft) and range of 1,550 km (960 mi).

Armament consists of two internal 30 mm (1.2 in) DEFA 554 revolver cannons (single seat). Nine external hard-points, able to carry up to 6,300 kg (13,900 lb) of stores: five under the fuselage and two under each wing. Ordnance includes; air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, unguided rocket pods, guided, and unguided bombs including nuclear and drop tanks.

Mirage 2000-5EI

The Republic of China Air Force became the first customer for the Mirage 2000-5 with the placement in 1992 of an order for 48 single-seat Mirage 2000-5EIs and 12 Mirage 2000-5DI trainers. Delivered from May 1997 to November 1998, based at Hsinchu Air Base Taiwan.

The Mirage 2000-5EIs and Mirage 2000-5DI trainer variants, built specifically for the ROCAF, had the mid-air refuel and ground attack ability removed.
