Herpa Wings HE571180
Herpa Wings HE571180 replicates in 1/200 scale diecast the Dash 7-102 (DHC-7-102) registration N47RM operated by Rocky Mountain Airline in Continental Express’s livery, circa the late 1980s.
Continental Express
Continental Express, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Continental Airlines, was the brand name used by independently owned regional and commuter airlines operating services under an agreement with Continental Airlines. Formed in 1986 with four airlines owned by Continental: Provincetown-Boston Airlines, Bar Harbor Airlines, Britt Airways and Rocky Mountain Airways. Rocky Mountain Airways merged with Britt Airways in 1991.
de Havilland Canada Dash 7
The de Havilland Canada Dash 7 (DHC-7) is a four-engine regional airliner with short take-off and landing (STOL) performance. It first flew on March 27, 1975, entering service in February 1978 with Rocky Mountain Airways. The Canadian military designated it the CC-132, and the US military, O-5.
The higher cost of maintaining four engines over two and a lack of demand for STOL in an airliner of that size led to limited commercial success and the development of the more successful twin-engine Dash 8. Production ended in 1988 with 113 airframes built.
The Canadian government sold de Havilland Canada (DHC) to Boeing in 1986, which onsold it to Bombardier Aerospace in 1992. In 2006 Viking Air purchased the type certificates for the DHC-1 to DHC-7.
The flight crew consists of two pilots and the passenger cabin seats up to 50 or 5,511 kg (12,150 lb) of cargo. The Dash 7 uses four Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-50 turboprop engines mounted two under each wing, driving four-bladed glass fibre Hamilton Standard propellers.
