Lockheed C-130 Hercules
The Lockheed C-130 is an American four-turboprop-engined tactical transport aircraft. It first flew on August 23, 1954, and entered service in 1957. Designed as a combat transport aircraft to operate from unprepared and semi-prepared runways. Initially intended for the troop, medical evacuation, and cargo transport, added roles include gunship, aerial refueler, maritime patrol, firefighting, research, search and rescue.
The C-130 has been in production longer than any other military aircraft type and holds the record for the largest aircraft to land and take off an aircraft carrier. Developed in the 1990s, the C-130J Super Hercules is the only variant still in production.
The flight crew comprises two pilots, a navigator, a flight engineer, and a loadmaster. The C-130J has a minimum of two pilots and a loadmaster. Powered by four wing-mounted Allison T56 turboprop engines, the C-130J Super Hercules uses the Rolls-Royce AE 2100, driving six-bladed scimitar propellers.
