A Decade of A400M: Transforming Luftwaffe Airlift

The German Air Force’s first A400M, tactical number “54+01,” landed at Wunstorf on December 19, 2014. This event marked the start of a new era for the air base and Air Transport Wing 62, symbolising a significant advancement in Germany’s air transport capabilities. In celebration of the A400M’s 10th anniversary in Luftwaffe service in 2024, aircraft “54+01” received a commemorative “10 Jahre A400M” (10 years A400M) logo.

Wunstorf remains the sole base for the German A400M fleet and the home of Air Transport Wing 62 (LTG 62). The German government originally ordered 53 aircraft. By late 2023 and into 2024, over 40 A400Ms had been delivered, with the fleet expected to reach full strength by the end of 2026.

Airbus A400M Atlas

The Airbus A400M Atlas is a multi-national, four-engine turboprop military tactical and strategic airlifter, bridging the gap between the C-130 Hercules and the C-17 Globemaster III. Its maiden flight took place on December 11, 2009, and the first production aircraft went to the French Air Force in August 2013.
Thirty per cent of the airframe’s construction is composites, including most of the wing, tail, control surfaces, rear cargo door, undercarriage bays, and propeller blades. The cockpit is armoured, and the windscreens are bullet-resistant. The aircraft features computerised fly-by-wire flight controls with side-stick controllers. Advanced avionics include head-up displays (HUD) and liquid-crystal displays (LCD).
The cargo hold measures 4 metres (13 ft 1 in) wide, 4 metres (13 ft 1 in) high, and 17.70 metres (58 ft) long, with a maximum capacity of 37,000 kg (81,600 lb). Designed to accommodate troops and paratroopers, the A400M is also capable of aerial refuelling and medical evacuation missions. Its retractable, 12-wheel main landing gear enables operations from soft, unprepared airstrips.
The A400M propulsion system consists of four TP400 turboprop engines—the most powerful turboprops in production—driving Hamilton Sundstrand eight-bladed scimitar propellers.

Warning: Choking Hazard! Not suitable for children under 14 years of age or individuals who tend to place inedible objects in their mouths. Adult collectable - designed for static display - Not a toy.
