Hobby Master HA1430 1/72 Air Power
Hobby Master 1/72 Air Power series HA1430 replicates in 1/72 scale diecast the A-4G Skyhawk serial number N13-154904, buzz number 883. Of VF-805, Royal Australian Navy (RAN) deployed aboard HMAS Melbourne, 1980.
805 Squadron RAN
It formed as 805 Naval Air Squadron of the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm in 1940, operating in the Mediterranean and Pacific theatres of WWII.
In 1948, it reformed as a unit of the Royal Australian Navy and deployed to Korea in September 1951 aboard HMAS Sydney. The squadron became part of HMAS Melbourne’s air wing in 1958, remaining until 1982. It was designated ‘VF’ (fixed-wing fighter aircraft) during the Skyhawk era.
Re-established in 2001 as a helicopter squadron operating the Kaman Super Seasprite. However, problems with the helicopters and their withdrawal from service led to the unit disbanding in 2008.
McDonnell Douglas A-4G Skyhawk
The A-4G Skyhawk is a sub-variant of the A-4F, a single-seat, delta-winged, single turbojet engine, and subsonic carrier-capable light attack aircraft. Developed for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), the A-4G had improved air combat capability avionics with AIM-9B Sidewinder air-to-air missiles and guided air-to-ground weapon systems removed.
Primary used for fleet air defence aboard the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne; the RAN received twenty A-4Gs and four TA-4Gs beginning in 1967, operating the type until 1984.
The A-4 uses a single Pratt & Whitney J52-P8A axial-flow turbojet engine. The armament consists of two cannons and five external hard points to carry up to 3,629kg (8,001 lb) of stores.
