Gemini Jets GJQFA1625 – 1/400 Scale A330-300 Diecast Model.
Gemini Jets GJQFA1625 is a 1/400 scale diecast model of the Airbus A330-300 airliner. Registered VH-QPJ, named “Port Stephens” and operated by Qantas Airways, in the new Silver Roo livery. Allocated manufactures serial number 712, it first flew on November 30, 2005. Delivered to Qantas on December 20, 2005. This aircraft uses GE Aviation CF6-80E1A2 engines.
Qantas Airways is the largest by fleet size Australia airline. Founded in November 1920, it is the third oldest airline in the world. The Qantas name comes from an acronym for its original name, “Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services”. Qantas and its various subsidiary airlines operate both international and domestic services within Australia.
The Airbus A330 is an European medium to long-range wide-body twin-engine jet airliner. The first variant, the A330-300 first flew in November 1992 and entered passenger service in January 1994 with Air Inter. Variants include the A330-200, A330-200F (freighter), A330 MRTT (military tanker)and ACJ330 (corporate jet). Developed in conjunction with the A340, which uses many common air-frame components.
The airframe features a low-wing cantilever monoplane. The wings designed and manufactured by BAe have a 30 degrees swept back and 2.74 m tall winglets. The A330 fuselage shares many components 0f the A300-600. The fin, rudder, elevators, horizontal tail plane flaps, ailerons and spoilers are made of composite materials. It uses the Honeywell 331–350C auxiliary power unit (APU).
Airbus aircraft have a common cockpit to allow quick transition between types for pilots. The A330 shares the same glass cockpit layout as the A320 and A340. Features include side-stick controls, six main displays. Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS), for navigation and flight displays and the Electronic Centralised Aircraft Monitor (ECAM). It uses a fly-by-wire system with three primary and two secondary flight control systems. A flight envelope protection system prevents manoeuvres exceeding aerodynamic and structural limits.
The A330 has two engines suspended on pylons under the wings. Airbus offer a choice of three engines, the Trent 700 by Rolls-Royce, PW4000 by Pratt & Whitney, and CF6-80E1 by GE Aviation.
The first of the A330 family, maiden flight took place in November 1992. First entering service in January 1994 with Air Inter, a French domestic carrier. Based on a stretched A300 fuselage but with new wings, tail and fly-by-wire systems. Accommodates 277 passengers in a typical layout or 440 in high-density. Maximum range of 11750 km.
In 2012, Airbus announced plans for a passenger-to-freighter conversion program (P2F program) with ST Aerospace. Both the A330-300 and A330-200 are to be part of the program. The A330-300P2F maximum payload will be 61 tonnes and maximum range of 6,667 km for the higher MTOW variants. The A330-200P2F maximum payload of 59 tonnes and maximum range of 7408km. In December 2014, Egyptair Cargo ordered the first A330-300P2F, it is due to enter service in 2017.
Airbus announced a new lower weight A330-300 variant on 25 September 2013. Saudi Arabian Airlines took delivery of the first A330-300 Regional on August 18, 2016. Based on the longer range A330-300 optimized for shorter-haul flights of up to 5,000km. With a MTOW of around 200 tonnes, it can carry up to 400 passengers.
The A330neo (New Engine Option) is a development from the initial A330. Launched in July 2014 at the Farnborough Airshow. The two variants are the A330-800neo (A330-200) and A330-900neo (A330-300). It will use the Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 developed for the Boeing 787. Along with aerodynamic improvements including new composite Sharklet wingtips increasing the wing span 3.7 metres. It will have a 14% better fuel economy per seat. The A330-300neo will accommodate 287 passengers in a typical layout or 440 in high-density and have a maximum range of 12130 km. The first A330neo delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2018.
