USAir
USAir was an American airline that operated both national and international services. Founded in 1939 as All American Aviation Inc by du Pont brothers Richard and Alexis Jr., it rebranded as Allegheny Airlines in 1953, then to USAir in 1979. In early 1997 name changed to US Airway. It was merged with American Airlines in December 2013, with the US Airways brand retired in 2015. Subsidiary airlines were Piedmont Airlines and PSA Airlines.
Boeing 737-300/400/500
The Boeing 737 is an American short to medium-range twin-engined, narrow-body airliner. The first flight, a 737-300, took place on February 24, 1984, entering service in November 1984, with USAir.
The maiden flight of the 737-400 occurred on February 19, 1988, entering service in September 1988 with Piedmont Airlines. The -400 differs from the -300 with a 3.05 m (10 ft) longer fuselage, increased Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW). The -500 with a fuselage 2.4 m (7.9 ft) shorter than the -300 first flew on June 30, 1989, entering service in February 1990 with South West Airlines. Production of all variants ended in 2000 with 1,988 airframes built.
The airframe is mainly of aluminium alloy with some graphite-epoxy composites. The fuselage is a semi-monocoque design with low mounted cantilevered tapered swept-back wings, conventional single-fin tail and retractable tricycle undercarriage. The flight crew consists of two pilots, and the passenger cabin seats 140 (-300), 147 (-400) and 122 (-500) in a single class.
The 737 used two CFM International CFM56 low-bypass turbofans engines pylon mounted one under each wing. Giving a cruise speed of 796 km/h (494 mph), a service ceiling of 11,300 m (37,000 ft) and a range of 4176 km (2,595 mi) depending on variant.
