Boeing 717/MD-95

The B717 is an American twin-turbofan, narrow-body, short- to medium-range airliner. It was initially designed and marketed by McDonnell Douglas as the MD-95, before being rebranded as the 717 following the company’s merger with Boeing in 1997. The aircraft made its first flight on September 2, 1998, and entered service with AirTran Airways on October 12, 1999. Boeing produced a total of 156 airframes before concluding production in 2006.
Developed to replace the aging DC-9, the MD-95 offered similar weight and dimensions to the DC-9-30 but featured new engines, a digital cockpit, fly-by-wire controls, and other modern systems. It was produced in a single model, the 717-200, and offered two variants: Basic Gross Weight and High Gross Weight, the latter providing greater payload capacity and extended range.

The cockpit crew consists of two pilots, and the passenger cabin accommodates up to 106 passengers. Two Rolls-Royce BR700 axial-flow turbofan engines power the aircraft, mounted on the rear fuselage.
