Aviation72 AV72-21002
Aviation72 AV72-27002 replicates in 1/72 scale diecast the Tucano T.1, s/n ZF239 of the RAF Tucano Display Team, in the colour scheme worn during the 2013 air show season.
RAF Tucano Display Team
The Team is based at RAF Linton-on-Ouse and conducts a solo aerobatic routine. The aircraft received a new paint scheme every season; the 2013 scheme was the desert camouflage scheme of 72 Squadron used in North Africa during World War II. The RAF lettering on the side of the fuselage promoted the Royal Air Force. The Tucano Display Team ceased operation in 2015. They were replaced by the Hawk T.2 to showcase fast-jet flying training.
Short Tucano
The Short Toucan is a British tandem-seat turboprop primary trainer that first flew on February 14, 1986, and entered service in 1989 with the RAF.
It is a licensed version of the Brazilian Embraer EMB-312 Tucano built by Short Brothers of Belfast, Northern Ireland, to replace the Jet Provost with the RAF. The aircraft handles like a jet aircraft and is aerobatic.
It differs from the Embraer with a Garrett turboprop replacing the Pratt and Whitney, increasing performance. The cockpit layout is similar to the Hawk advanced trainer. Export customers include Kenya and Kuwait. The Kuwait Air Force Tucanos are combat-capable with four underwing pylons.
