Legion Models 14620LC

Legion Models 14620LC is a 1/72 scale diecast model of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-3 Würger (Shrike) depicting the aircraft flown by Hauptmann Hans “Assi” Hahn, the Gruppenkommandeur of III. Gruppe, Jagdgeschwader 2 “Richthofen” (III/JG 2) of the Luftwaffe in 1942.

Jagdgeschwader 2, Luftwaffe

Jagdgeschwader 2 (JG 2) “Richthofen,” named after the World War I ace, was a German fighter wing during World War II. It was established in 1934 as JG 132, renamed JG 131 in 1938, and finally became JG 2 “Richthofen” in May 1939.

The wing participated in the Battles of Belgium, France, and Britain. It also fought in the North African Campaign, the Defence of the Reich, and the Battle of the Bulge.

Focke-Wulf Fw 190

The Fw 190 Würger (Shrike) is a German single-engine, single-seat monoplane fighter used during World War II. It first flew on June 1, 1939, and entered service in August 1941. Numerous variants of the Fw 190 were produced to fulfil various roles, including day fighter, fighter-bomber, ground attack, and night fighter. It initially outperformed the Supermarine Spitfire until the introduction of the Spitfire Mk IX in July 1942.

The Fw 190 A series served as a fighter and ground attack variant, while the Fw 190 F sequence was specifically designed for ground attacks, featuring weapon racks and increased armour. Notable design elements of the Fw 190 include using rigid pushrods instead of cables and extensive reliance on electrically powered equipment, including the undercarriage.

The Fw 190 A is powered by a single BMW 801 14-cylinder air-cooled radial piston engine, which drives a three-bladed constant-speed propeller.

Its armament consists of two machine guns mounted internally atop the engine and four cannons: one located in each wing root and the others positioned outboard.
