BH Air
BH Air is a Bulgarian charter airline partly owned by Balkan Holidays Services. Founded in 2001, it provides charter flights for European tour operators.
The Tupolev Tu-154 is a Russian three-engine, medium-range, narrow-body airliner, known as “Careless” in NATO reporting. Its maiden flight occurred on October 4, 1968, and it entered service in May 1971. The Tu-154 was developed to replace three aircraft: the Tu-104, the Antonov An-10, and the Ilyushin Il-18 turboprops.
The main variants include:
Tu-154: the original model
Tu-154A: more powerful engines, centre-section fuel tanks and more emergency exits
Tu-154B: a stronger wing, increased MTOW, additional emergency exits in the tail, increased seating capacity
Tu-154M: more fuel-efficient engines, improved engines and increased MTOW. Notably, one Tu-154M was modified for cosmonaut flight training for the Buran spacecraft.
Production of the aircraft ended in 2013, with a total of 930 airframes built.
The cockpit crew comprises two pilots, a flight engineer, and a navigator. The passenger cabin can accommodate up to 180 in a six-abreast seating configuration.
Early models used three Kuznetsov NK-8-2 low-bypass axial flow turbofan engines. These engines were mounted at the rear of the fuselage, with two externally positioned on each side and a third fed internally through a dorsal air intake via an “S-duct.” The Tu-154M used the more fuel-efficient Soloviev D-30K turbofan engine.
