Trans Australia Airlines

Trans Australia Airlines (TAA) was a government-owned Australian domestic airline. It was one of Australia’s two major domestic airlines; the other was Ansett Airways. Founded on September 8, 1946, as TAA and renamed Australian Airlines in 1986, it merged into Qantas in September 1992.

Vickers Viscount

The Viscount is a British medium-range turboprop airliner that first took flight in July 1948 and entered service with British European Airways (BEA) in April 1953. It was notable for being the first turboprop airliner and became one of Britain’s most successful commercial aircraft.

The Viscount was produced in three main variants:

  • 700 Series: the first production version with a capacity of 43 passengers
  • 800 Series: fuselage extended by 1.168 m  (3 ft 10 in), increasing passenger capacity to 65 passengers
  • 810 Series:  more powerful engines and longer-range

The last Viscount passenger service in Britain operated in April 1996. Before production ceased in 1963, 448 airframes were completed.

The cockpit crew consists of two pilots. The -810 variant of the passenger cabin seats 75 passengers. It is powered by two Rolls-Royce RB.53 Dart turboprop engines, one mounted on each wing, driving four-blade constant-speed propellers.
