Hobby Master HA9305 1/72 Air Power Series

Hobby Master 1/72 Air Power Series HA9305 is a 1/72 scale diecast model of the McDonnell RF-101C Voodoo, serial number 54-1512. Of the 363rd Tactical Reconnaissance Wing (363rd TRW), United States Air Force (USAF), while based at Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base (Udorn RTAFB), Thailand, 1965.

363rd TRW, USAF

The Air Force activated the 363rd Fighter Group in March 1943 and operated the P-51 Mustang in the European theatre during WWII. In 1944, redesignated as the 363rd Tactical Reconnaissance Group and supported both the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge.
During the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, the group played a critical role after its redesignation as the 363rd Tactical Fighter Wing; the unit converted to F-16 Fighting Falcons. The wing played a significant role in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm (1990–1991) and participated in the initial operations to enforce the no-fly zone over Iraq. As the 363rd Air Expeditionary Wing, the unit engages in Operation Southern Watch in Southwest Asia.
In 2015, the wing was redesignated as the 363rd Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Wing at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, with a focus on targeting and analysis, returning the wing to its intelligence roots.

McDonnell F-101 Voodoo

The McDonnell F-101 Voodoo is an American twin-engine supersonic fighter-bomber and reconnaissance aircraft. The Voodoo’s maiden flight occurred on September 29, 1954. The 27th Strategic Fighter Wing, USAF, introduced it into service in May 1957. Canada, the only foreign operator, designated it as the CF-101B.
McDonnell developed several variants: the F-101A and C serve as single-seat fighter-bombers. At the same time, the F-101B acts as an interceptor with a tandem-seat cockpit for the pilot and Weapons System Officer. The company adapted all variants for the reconnaissance mission.
McDonnell ended production in 1961 after building 785 airframes. The USAF retired the Voodoo from service in 1979, the Air National Guard followed in 1982, and Canada withdrew its fleet in 1984.
Two Pratt & Whitney J57 after-burning turbojet engines power the F-101. The F-101A/C carries four cannons and a centerline external nuclear store, while the F-101B holds four air-to-air missiles in its fuselage weapons bay.
