Hobby Master 1/72 Air Power series HA2428 is a 1/72 scale diecast model of the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15bis “Red 35”, Chinese People’s Volunteers Air Force (CPVAF), North Korea, 1950s.
People’s Volunteer Army
The Chinese People’s Volunteers (CPV) were the military forces deployed to Korea during the Korean War. Although drawn from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the CPV was separate to avoid an official declaration of war against the United States. The CPV entered Korea on October 19, 1950, and completed its withdrawal by October 1958.
The MiG-15bis (NATO reporting name “Fagot B”) is a single-seat, single-engine jet fighter that entered service in the early 1950s. This model is an improved version of the MiG-15, featuring a more powerful engine, a strengthened airframe, enhanced cannons, increased fuel capacity, and advanced avionics. Some variants had under-wing hardpoints.
The design of the MiG-15 incorporates technology obtained from Germany at the end of World War II, and it was one of the first successful swept-wing jet fighters capable of achieving high transonic speeds. The MiG-15 has served in the air forces of over 40 countries and demonstrated superiority over NATO aircraft during the Korean War. The USSR manufactured approximately 12,000 MiG-15s, while Czechoslovakia produced them as the S-102 and S-103, and Poland manufactured the Lim-1 and Lim-2. There were also two-seat variants: the SB Lim-1 and SB Lim-2. Additionally, China exclusively manufactured the MiG-15UTI, known as the Shenyang TF-2.
A single Klimov VK-1 centrifugal flow turbojet powers the MiG-15bis. Its armament includes three cannons located in the lower fuselage, and some models have two under-wing pylons capable of carrying stores weighing up to 100 kg (220 lb).
