Antonov Airlines

Antonov Airlines, a division of the Antonov Aviation Company, is a Ukrainian cargo airline specializing in international charter services for oversized cargo. The airline began operations in 1989 in partnership with Air Foyle, providing Antonov An-124 cargo charters globally.

In 2006, Antonov Airlines formed a joint venture called Ruslan International with Volga-Dnepr Airlines from Russia. The airline’s fleet includes one AN-225 Mriya, seven AN-124-100 Ruslans, one AN-22 Antei, two AN-12s, one AN-26, and one AN-74T.

Antonov An-124 Ruslan

The Antonov An-124 Ruslan (NATO reporting name: “Condor”) is a Russian four-engine strategic airlifter. It first flew on December 24, 1982, and entered service in 1986. It is the world’s second-heaviest cargo aircraft in gross weight and the heaviest operating aircraft overall. Production of the An-124 ended in 2004, with fifty-five aircraft completed.

The lower cargo hold can accommodate up to 154,221 kg (340,000 lb) of cargo, measuring 6.4 m (21 ft) in width, 4.4 m (14 ft) in height, and 36.0 m (118 ft 1 in) in length, which is 20% larger than the cargo compartment of the C-5 Galaxy. The upper deck behind the wing center section can also carry up to 88 passengers.

The flight crew comprises two pilots, a navigator, a chief flight engineer, an electrical flight engineer, a radio operator, and two loadmasters.

The An-124 is powered by four Progress D-18T high-bypass axial-flow turbofan engines, with two engines mounted on pylons under each wing.
