American Airlines
American Airlines (AA) is the largest airline in the world. It was established as American Airways in 1930 through the merger of over 82 airlines, including TWA in 2001 and US Airways in 2015. The airline operates domestic, international, and regional services under the American Eagle brand.
The McDonnell Douglas MD-90 is an American twin turbofan, narrow-bodied, short—to medium-range airliner designed to operate from short runways with less ground infrastructure. It first flew on February 22, 1993, and entered service with Delta Air Lines in early 1995.
Developed from the MD-80, which evolved from the DC-9, with a lengthened fuselage and high-bypass turbofan engines. It was manufactured in two main variants, the -30 and the -30ER, with a higher maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) and range.
After the 1997 Boeing McDonnell Douglas merger, sales of the MD-90 stopped in favour of the Boeing 737. Delta Air Lines, the last major operator of the type, made the MD-90’s final commercial flight on June 2, 2020. Production ended in 2000, with 116 airframes built.
The cockpit crew consists of two pilots, and the passenger cabin typically seats 153 to 172, depending on the cabin configuration.
It is powered by two IAE V2500 high-bypass turbofan axial flow engines mounted on pylons, one on each rear fuselage side.
